Conclusion Essay

When I signed up for this class, I chose it because it sounded fun and like something different than my other courses. I didn’t have much expectation to learn, but rather an “easy A”. But throughout this semester, I have been able to find my creative side once again thanks to this class. I never considered myself creative. I was told that creativity was something you were born with and that I, unfortunately, just didn't get that gene. This class offered the opportunity to explore the creative process without pressure or expectation of the end result. It offered resources, explanations, prompts that made creativity accessible to even the ‘non-creatives’. The professor did an incredible job meeting everyone where they were at in the creative process, and encouraging the students to try new things and not to worry so much about the end result. One of my favorite activities was creating a creative schedule. The reason this assignment was so influential is that it made creativity into something that you practice, rather than a predisposed idea. It’s like working a muscle or building a new skill. Scheduling time out of your day to devote to mindfulness and creative expression, not only made me improve my creative abilities, but gave me time each day to clear my mind and get in the right headspace. I also loved assignments like Feel The Beat, where we were encouraged to make the worst song ever. When you first try something that is outside of your comfort zone, it can feel paralyzing to get started. The expectations of the end result halt any motive to move forward. It gave the students the opportunity to just have fun and explore the idea, which is the best first step. As I have said before, I am creating a company based on this idea. My co-founder presented this idea before I started the class, and I have been able to learn so much about making creative practice fun and introspective, and also digestible for the people who are just getting started. Overall, I have a completely different outlook on what creativity is and I have this class to thank.
